Student Success Statement
“A man without a goal is like a ship without a
rudder”
Thomas Carlyle
When a boat or ship is being driven off
somewhere, the rudder is what helps it stay on the right path. Its obstacles
are what make the boat turn in the first place, but the rudder keeps the boat
from getting off course. Just like a boat, a person needs that guidance to help
from swaying towards the wrong path. A goal is our equivalent to a rudder. A
goal helps us have direction and purpose in life. Without a goal we are like a
train without tracks, or a ship without a rudder.
