“Truth is the only safe ground to stand upon”

Elizabeth Candy Stanton”

To me she trying to say that what's not safe, making the wrong choices. Everyone in this world has a choice, everyone. The only true and safe thing we have in this world is the truth. In the end the truth comes out, good or bad.

Attention to Detail

Attention to Detail

7 of 10

When you double-check your calculations for a math problem or cite sources carefully in a research paper. You’re paying close attention to detail, that skill comes in handy in any workplace. Whether you maintain a database, keep a log of the hours you spend with clients or write e-mails.

John Wooden, UCLA’s former great basketball coach who leads his team to ten consecutive national

championships, was asked what he attributed his success to. Among a number of things, he mentioned that paying attention to details was one of the most important qualities for successful coaching and for achievement in any worthwhile pursuit, he even pays attention to how his players would lace up and tie their shoes strings. If they didn't tie them correctly, he would teach them how.

Details may be small things, but from small things come great things; therefore, pay attention to details and you will experience substantial progress in your overall educational achievements.

“Star with what is right rather than what is acceptable.”

Peter F. Drucker

He trying to say that always star doing the right thing and never give up. If you know it’s the right thing to do then do it. For example if you see someone choosing the wrong let them know to always choose the right!

Initiative

Initiative

5 of 10

Initiative is creativity, imitativeness, originality, ingenuity, imagination. Every time you respond in class, every time you choose your own research topic, every time you put together your own interpretation of a piece of literature, you take initiative. And future employers value can-do professionals who come up with new ideas and chart their own course through projects, employers who are self-reliant. Self-reliant people are self-starters who don’t procrastinate on getting the job done. They know what is required to do and so it. They don’t wait to be told many times. Succeeding in high school, college, and in the career world is taking the initiative.

Every time your class breaks into groups to tackle a challenge, you build teamwork skills. In college, you’ll continue to have these opportunities to practice voicing your opinions, listening and responding to others, and reaching compromises. By the time you leave college, you can be an expert in these important workplace skills.

speaking skills

Speaking skills

2 of 10

When you’re assigned a class presentation, think twice before dismissing it as an important part of your education. Employers look for speaking skills in job applicants, who may have to give presentations to clients or represent their organization in the fields. It’s never too soon to practice good eye contact and other public speaking techniques.

According to the Book of Lists. The fear of public speaking ranks number one in the minds of the majority of people, far above the fear of death and disease, comes the fear of standing in front of a crowd. Joel wiener noted author and public speaker wants to help people overcome that fear. “the biggest fear is public speaking, with 15 percent of American experiencing a dramatic fear of it,” said Dr. Michael Telch of the laboratory for the Study of Anxiety Disorders (LSAD) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. “People have had to turn down jobs, and certainly students have dropped classes because of it.”

Regardless of your occupation, your success depends a great deal upon your ability to communicate effectively! Whether you’re running  a meeting, selling a product, making a presentation, motivating co-workers, or just communicating one-on- one with others, you’ll get far better results if you can speak persuasively, smooth and intelligent.

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than successful men with talent. Genius will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."
-Calvin Coolidge, 30th president of the United States

if you want something and put forth the effort and persistence you will succeed. For example if you want straight A’s in your classes you have to work hard to obtain them. You really need to put effort to it no matter how hard it is.

Writing Skills

Communication is at the top of the list of skills that employers look for. And communication in the workplace often means writing. Health professions keep patient charts, researchers depend on the money they collect by writing grant applications, software engineers write technical specifications, and nearly everyone writes e-mail to people inside and outside their organization. And before you even get the chance to interview for a job, you’ll need to present yourself in cover letters and resumes. So, by taking writing serious and doing your best on every research paper you write, every new post you write in your bog site, and every writing activity you engage in, you’re preparing yourself for a good career.

More Tips

Finally, look beyond the article for more clues.

Ø Read the website’s home page and the About Us page. Look for a mission statement to learn more about the site, it’s purpose and the organization sponsoring it.

Ø if there is an author listed. Look for a biography that discusses the authors education, profession and other relevant background. If there is no bio on the site, search for one elsewhere on the Web.

Ø Check the date. Facts can change over time, so see if the site shows when it was last updated.

Ø Presentation counts; a clean, well-organized site shows a certain degree of professionalism.

Ø Avoid sites that are pornographic, vulgar, misappropriate, below par, suggestive, and falsifying.

Read between the lines

Make a judgment about the site’s reliability based on your own analysis of the site and the information it contains. Here are some ways to do this:

ü Look for facts you know or can check with a trusted source. If the site gets those facts right, it’s more likely that the other facts on the site are also accurate.

ü Study the language used. Is it angry, satiric or overly impassioned? This may indicate that the site is biased.

ü Consider whether the arguments are logical and  backed up by evidence, and whether the site presents only one point of view.

Check the links to the sources that the author acknowledges. Scholarly writing, whether in print or online, should include a bibliography.

Look at the site’s address. What follows the dot?

·         Dot-com is not only for businesses; anyone can use it. Dot-coms include well-known and respected companies, but also private individuals.

·         Dot-org usually indicates a not-for-profit organization. May dot-orgs present unbiased information, but others have political agendas, focus on debatable issues instead of facts, and might not present all sides of an argument.

·         Dot-gov indicates a government website at the federal, state or local level. The federal government is a good source of statistics, and its sites are widely considered among the most reliable.

·         Dot-mil is used by sites that are part of the military.

·         Dot-edu usually indicates a university website. While its published research is generally considered very trustworthy, anyone associated with the university, whether a world-renowned scholar or a freshman, can be given space on its server. It’s Online, but Is It On Target?

Using  the Web Wisely

Thanks to the Web, information is easy to find. However, it’s also easy to post something online. Anyone can do it. You’ve probably used the Internet to so research for a paper, to help you decide which product to buy, or form an opinion about current events . Looking up information online is fast and convenient. But when you do online research, it’s important to find sites you can trust. Many websites claim to have facts, but are full of errors. Others present information in a biased way- they only give one side of an argument. How can you tell a reliable source from an unreliable one? Also it is critical that you post online that which is descent and appropriate, never anything pornographic, vulgar, indecent, out of taste, untruthful, or obscene. Post those things that will make a good name for you and your organization, that will promote goodwill and be of the benefit to the world.

When an archer misses the mark, he turns and looks for the fault within himself. Failure to hit the bulls-eye is never the fault of the target. To improve your aim, improve yourself.”

A lot of times people tend to blame others for the faults they do, it's just a natural response at times, but a lot of people make the mistake of not recognizing what they are doing is wrong. I really like gilberts quote, especially when he says," To improve your aim, improve yourself." This is true in so may levels, in life, school, friends etc, you name it.

At the end of each section, look up from the text and in your own words recite an answer to your question for that section. Then write down your answer. Be sure to provide examples that support it. Now repeat the question, Read and Recite steps for each of the chapter. First ask a question for the next section. Then read to find the answer. Finally, recite the answer in your own words and jot it down. The written questions and answers can help you study in the future.

Review

After completing the chapter, review your notes. Identify the main points by looking for the most important idea in each section. Recite, or write, a brief summary of the assignment.

Review your study notes every week to help you remember the information. When it’s time to prepare for your tests, you’ll find you’ve created an invaluable study guide.

The first law of success…is concentration; to bend all the energies to one point, and to go directly to that point, looking neither to the right nor the left.”

William Matthews

This quote to me, is saying that success doesn't come from luck, it's hard work that helps you achieve your goals, day that you go to sleep at 1:00am doing homework, etc.. The only way to achieve success to begin with is of you are truly committed, and have the desire to push you forward.
